Frequently Asked Questions- Part 1!
Answers to some of our most frequently asked questions! They range the gamut so hopefully we got to yours but if not, please feel free to reach out directly via email, phone or our contact page here on the site!
What does Blüm mean? And how do I pronounce it?!
Our #1 most asked question! Blümen is German for flowers, it is pronounced blurmen but “bloomen” works just fine. When picking a name we wanted something that referenced our European roots (both genetically and also in floral design training) and also a unique word that was all our own. So, we took the German word for flowers and cut the stem a little shorter (pun intended!)
What services do you offer?
In addition to floral design we also provide event and wedding styling services. This means that we can help you not only with your flowers but also with coordinating a flawless look from flowers to linens to chairs to all the other fun details that make a wedding an unforgettably beautiful experience! In addition to weddings we also provide flowers for events, weekly deliveries, monthly subscriptions and holiday decor for your home and business!
Where are you located? Can I swing by?
Our studio is located at 3508 S Corbett Ave, Portland, OR 97239. We are available for consultations by appointment only due to the fact that I’m often working offsite, at events, making a delivery, running errands, in a meeting with another client or at home with my puppy. 🙂 If you’re in the area and feel like dropping by please give us a ring to make sure we’re in the studio and available.
How long have you been in business? How long have you been in your current space?
Blum was founded in 2005. After 12 years in our Naito Parkway studio we moved to our current location on Corbett in March 2018!
How did you get into flowers and become a florist?
While in college at Willamette University in Salem I got a part time working at a retail flower shop (Jary’s for all the Salemites!) My intention was to just have a fun part time job that would feel totally different from school and would provide a little spending money. Never did I imagine it would lead to my career of over twenty years and counting! While at that shop I really did fall in love though and after 2 years decided to invest in my new passion by getting a summer internship with a prominent event florist in London, England. That experience solidified my love for the industry, and more specifically, my love for weddings and events. A year working in Boston, and then I was back home in Portland freelancing and eventually opening Blum!
Are you hiring?
Maybe! We typically do most of our hiring for the busy summer/fall seasons in Spring but I love meeting new people and specifically hard working, passionate, kind florists any time of year. If you’re interested in freelancing with us please email me at jordan@blumfloraldesign.com or fill out the contact form on this site!
